After another big points shake up from Round #4 and the points season getting closer to the end, Round #5 would be pivital in the chase for the RC Monster Truck Challenge Points Series Championship. Today's action here at RC Madness in Enfield CT featured one of the best tracks we have run in the history of the RCMTC Crawford Performance Series. This track was inspired by a real track that the MLMT series ran in Las Vegas around 2007 and was called the Vegas-X crossover track. This track was similar to the Charlotte Crossover we've seen at the world finals before, on a smaller scale, with the crossover section in an X configuration. The trucks would complete two laps on the track, one lap going under the crossover and one jumping over it. The track was a huge hit with the drivers and provided some of the most fun and exciting racing we've seen so far this year.
A big headline today was El Diablo with driver Derrick Algieri getting rolling in round #4 to take second place in points, he would prove to be a strong contender today as he tries to chase down Maximum Destruction. Another big headline was with the Scorzafava Racing Technology team. Driver Tony Scorzafava was away on safari in Africa during this weekend, so he had his cousin Scott Veighey come in and sub drive the Nitemare and Radical Hunter machines. Scott is an experienced R/C racer in other vehicle classes, however this was his first venture into R/C Monster Truck Challenge racing and he proved to be a top contender on this track. Nitemare was among the trucks to beat for most of the day. We also got to see the debut of a brand new truck called Head Crusher driven by Dale Cote, and Dale did well for the first time out with a brand new truck on a complicated track for a first timer. While third place Grave Digger struggled, Dan Defalco was able to surge with his American Guardian truck. The defiance txt-1 chevy won a racing round on it's way to a top 5 finish, narrowing edged out by Chad Cataldo who drove Bulldozer earlier in the year, this time driving Total Chaos. Scott Veighey was able to get Nitemare its first podium finish, bringing the awesome red ford home in third place.
The battle however was for the top spot, as Derrick Algieri driving El Diablo and Kyle DeFalco driving the points leading Maximum Destruction battled it out in classic fashion all day. When all was said and done, it was Maximum Destruction grabbing the first place spot by only 6 points!!! among the closest points event finishes we've ever had!! Clearly the race for the championship will come down Round #6 next month as we crown a series champion. Stay Tuned!!
