2013 marked one of the best points series years we've ever had and now the time has come to up the bar. The 2014 racing season opened up with 2 of the best Winter Wars events we've seen, with amazing competition coming from the Pro-Mod division, shedding some light on what should be an amazing 2014 Points Series season.
As normal with the month April at RC Madness, mother nature would throw us several curveballs. The planned Saturday race date was plagued with a rainy forecast, focing the hand of the RCMTC-NY officials to move the race to the next day (Sunday). To make matters worse, the rains had turned the normal RCMTC Monster Truck track portion of the RC Madness facility into a huge mud pile, making the track un-raceable. Fortunately though the sand track was open, and the decision was made to switch from the planned S-course to an awesome, fast and competitive 3 jump straight drag on the sand drag track. This is no stranger to the series, the trucks ran the sand drag track last year and battled mother nature every step of the way. This time the rain held off, the track was laid down and the drivers and trucks were ready to rock and roll. This year's track would be longer than last year, and would start jumping over a pair of school busses. Once the trucks got back on the ground they would charge to the second jump, land as smooth as they can and head for the third and final jump and cross the finish line. The track would provide awesome side by side action every single round, filled with big air and side by side finishes. Lucas Oil Crusader emerged as a top contender right off the bat, with the truck winning 5 of the 6 racing rounds. The other round was won by Higher Education, who got the round win by defeating Derrick Algieri's brand new Backdraft, but ran into problems after crossing the finish line crossed up, sending the truck into the outside wall and breaking a wheel. This event also marked the RCMTC debut of the East Coast R/C trucks race team with driver Mike Baylis and his son Luke and their trucks Wrecking Crew and Minecraft Zombie. The team is not new r/c monster truck racing however, this was their first time on the RCMTC circuit and they both turned in strong performances. Also Mike and Phil with the Wild Willy, Grim Reaper and Bumble Beest trucks turned in strong runs for their first outdoor RCMTC race after breaking into the series during the Winter Wars mini series. At the end of the day, Lucas Oil Crusader's performance would grab Kyle the first Points Race win of the season, giving Crusader the early points lead. The action was intense, fast and fun and we're just getting started!! The 2014 RC Monster Truck Challenge Series rolls on with Round #2 coming up in May. Enjoy the pics and stay tuned!!!
