As the month of July rolls around, the 2014 RC Monster Truck Challenge Series hits its halfway point, as a 12 monster truck field rolls into the RC Madness outdoor racing facility in Enfield CT for Round #3. A pivital point in the series for the teams as they try and reel in the Lucas Oil Crusader, our current points leader. The race track was one of the more faster courses this season. The trucks would start on a roller, head to a U-turn, hit the same roller the other direction, then turn into each other and head for the final jump and finish line.
Early on in the day the racing established itself to be very competitive, as trucks like El Diablo and Excaliber would win the opening rounds. Drivers experimented with different lines throughout this racing course and the trucks would get faster each round. By the end of the day, it was Higher Education and Backdraft emerging as the trucks to beat, with Maximum Destruction hot on their heels. Crusader however had a rough day, which is exactly what the other teams needed to close the point gap. Crusader was a victim to two bad hits in two different runs, breaking wheels and losing important races, while Backdraft and Higher Education would be able to continue to improve. Derrick Algeri had Backdraft, El Diablo and Excaliber all in the top 5, with Dan's Higher Education trying to spoil the party. At the end of the day, it was Backdraft beating out Higher Education for the event win by only 3 POINTS!!! But wait, it gets better. Dan was able to take 2nd place by over 1 point over El Diablo, who just beat out Excaliber for 4th by 1 point!. Excaliber was able to beat Max-D for 5th place by 3 points, making this the tightest top 6 finishers in one event EVER in the history of the RC Monster Truck Challenge. So it's Backdraft grabbing the win as the points tighten up throughout the top 10. With only two events left, the action will be ready to hit it's peak.
