RCMTC offifials set up a great freestyle track which consisted of the table tops from racing, the racing crush cars built by the wood brothers, a special ramp that holds the tires used for turning cones, the tractor trailer jump and several other ramps. The winner of this freestyle competition would recieve 3 extra bonus points that would be added to the season long racing championship points tally. Check out some pictures and highlights from the freestyle competition...
Andrew Spragg was one of the early runs with Animal. Andrew had some strong hits and eventually suffered steering problems after breaking something in the front end, Animal would score a 17 out of 30.
In an almost deja-vu moement from the RCMTRA world finals a year ago, Keith Wood gets a good hit in with Revolution and crashes on jump number 2, tough break for Keith and Revolution socres a 9.
Past freestyle champion Black Stallion driven by Kyle DeFalco came out and started putting down some good htis when a bad rebound from the ramp pictured right sent stallion right onto his hood.
Peter Spragg ran into some trouble during his freestyle run with the Hot Wheels truck. After experiencing battery problems the powerless truck ended up wedged on one of the freestyle obstacles to end his run.
Andrew Spragg caught some big air in Electric Mayhem. Andrew was on his way to a good run when the truck got out of shape and crashed hard on the nose.
Peter Spragg then brought out the RC Monster Motorsports Obession ford. After a nice hit on the RCMTC Officials Trailor jump, Peter Than swung the truck around and lined up with the crush cars. The truck landed crooked and was sent towards the red ramp of the front stretch which was hit crooked. Peter throttled up and the truck was just about every way you could put it, two wheels, three wheels and even one wheel. After a valiant effort to try and save the truck, Obsession finally fell over on his side to end the run.
Keith Wood had a breakout run with his Devious Chevrolet. Keith started out with some awesome reverse donuts that really got the dirt kicked up. Devious caught some big air off all the big jumps as well as pull off several big slap wheelies during the run. The run featured a nice combo after Keith grabbed a big slap wheelie off the cars and carried the wheelie into the trailor jump. The truck eventually got out of shape and rolled over on its side. A great run by Keith Wood and that would send him to the top of the board with a 25.
Dan D brought out the racing winner for the weekend, the CPE Amsoil Shock Therapy chevy and was hoping to have a reapeat performance of last years championship freestyle winning run. Shock Therapy went out to get some of the biggest air so far in the competition, launching the truck at all different angles. The highlight of the run came when Dan hit the red ramp on the backstretch from the steep side, sending the truck into a full complete backflip!!!!. Shock Therapy continued until a dying battery prevent him from completeing the full run. The Judges gave Shock Therapy a 26, one point enough to take the lead in the freestyle competition.
DRCR's second CPE sponsored truck Maximum Destruction was next with Kyle DeFalco behind the wheel. The run was a constant big air assault with Kyle grabbing severl monster slap wheelies during the run. Max D continued to get some of the best air of the competition but unfortunately flipped over backwards on a slap wheelie attempt. Mad Max was on his way to a winning run but it ended too soon. Maximum Destruction scored a 21.
Dan was the last truck out with Grave Digger. He came out to hit the crush cars first, the truck nosed over and rolled over completely back on all fours. Digger swung around and took on the table top jumps used in racing and then lined up for the tire jump. Digger launched off the tires in what was the biggest air of the day and even pulled off a massive slap wheelie. After trying to grab another slap wheelie, the trruck rolled over backwards, only to be fought back onto all fours. Unfortunately for digger the next hit would sent the truck over and end the run, good enough for a 24 and a third place effort.
Dan would "double down" as AMSOIL Shock Therapy would win today's freestyle competition along with the racing. RCMTC officials would award 3 bonus points (equal to racing DQ points) to whichever truck won the freestyle competition. Those 3 bonus points would prove helpful as it would give Shock Therapy sole position of the early points lead.
