APRIL 29TH RC MADNESS - ENFIELD CT - The 2012 RC Monster Truck Challenge Crawford Performance Points Series got off to an awesome start at RC Madness with some great racing on a challenge track. 9 trucks did battle on the carpet floor of the indoor RC Madness facility with a brand new track design. The trucks would run a St. Louis style (side by side ovals) and after starting side by side they would charge over a table top, then turn away from each other and head down the back stretch to two crush car sets. The drivers would then make the final turn towards each other, hit another table top and charge home the flat front stretch to the finish line.
The trucks were able to set the tone early in the opening solo qualifying round. Jerry Matoon debuted the brand new Safe Auto Minimizer monster truck today and really turned some heads by setting the fastest qualifying time. Amsoil Shock Therapy was not far behind, with promises of a strong run. However, during the opening racing round an unfortunate tough break would surface as Shock Therapy suffered a bad Axle tub and knuckle break, sidling the '09 champ for the remainder of the day. Derrick Algieri with Excaliber was able to rise to the challenge along with Kyle DeFalco's Bigfoot. Those two trucks along with the new Minimizer were the trucks to beat all day. When the last final round was run it was Derrick Algieri taking the win with Exacliber and Bigfoot and Minimizer in a tie for second place. The next truck closest to them was Kyle's Maximum Destruction, only around 20 points behind. The day belongs to Excaliber however, after a strong points run last year in Mr. Destruction, Derrick looks to be on the right track again as he grabs the early points lead. Check out some pictures from today's event!.
