The second RCMTC-NY Winter Wars event returned to the RC Madness racing facility on February 23rd and the drivers and trucks were jacked up for some big time r/c monster truck racing. Pro-Mod and retro monsters combined for an awesome 42 truck field to do battle on a tough, challening and fun carpet track. The Pro-mods would run an "anaheim" style race course. Starting ending on the big table top along with crush car jumps and left and right corners produced some really great racing and close finishes. The retro trucks would compete on an old school 3 jump straight drag track, which provided the crowd with some awesome side by side wheelstanding action worth of the RCMTC Retro Renegades name.
Pro-mod racing was top notch all day, in a large field with so many strong competitors, consistancy would be the golden ticket to the top of the podium. Normally known for a end of the day surge as it was in Winter Wars 1, Pete Poinatowski put the field on its heels by putting Rambunctious into the final round in race #1. Pete would meet Chad Cataldo driving a bright orange ford named illuminator. Chad has raced with the RCMTC before and in 2013 returned to competition for the first time in over a year and found himself in the finals right off the bat. It was the 2011 freestyle champ in Rambunctious however, grabbing the race #1 final win over illuminator. In race #2 Pete would return to the finals with his second truck Hook Ups but was defeated by defending series champion Derrick Algieri who was debuting a brand new truck idendity known as El Diablo. El Diablo was able to repeat in round 3 over illuminator who was having a strong day as well. The fourth and final race for the pro-mod class found the DRCR trucks Amsoil Shock Therapy, driven by Dan D and Maximum Destruction, driven by Kyle DeFalco squaring off for the last final round. Shock Thearpy was able to grab the last final round win for the day. Derrick Algieri was able to grab the event win With El Diablo. Chad Cataldo took an impressive 2nd place finish with illuminator, Dan's Shock Therapy was 3rd, Jerry Matoon had a strong 4th place finish with Safe Auto Minimizer and Kyle DeFalco rounded out the top 5 with Maximum Destruction.
The RCMTC Retro Renegades series put on two exciting rounds of old school straight drag racing. Round #1 saw Jerry Matoon's Frankenstein taking the win, and Jaelen Rascoe at only 4 years old was able to take the Round #2 final round!! Jaelen's win was very popular with the crowd and a great way to see that the retro renegades are perfect for young rookie drivers looking to get a handle on these trucks and have some fun with r/c racing!!
It was a great Winter Wars mini series and we can't thank Chris at RC Madness enough for all the help he has given this racing series and hosting fantasatic events. Also a huge thanks to all the drivers who came out and competed or watched. We look forward to heading outdoors and getting the points series underway. If these first 2 events are any indication of what's to come then we could be in store for our most competitive and biggest points series year we've ever had. Be sure to check out some cool pictures and video of the Winter Wars II event.
