The start of the 2012 RC Monster Truck Challenge yet again returned to the awesome RC Madness facility in Enfield CT. There was no better way to kick off what's promising to be our best season yet! 34 Monster Trucks made up an amazing field of trucks for today's competition which featured side by side pro-mod and retro renegades racing, The place was buzzing with excitement around the pits leading up to the start as the trucks got ready to do battle on a challenging St. Louis style course which featured a huge roller right off the start and leading to a crush car set. The trucks would then turn away from each other and hit the backstretch where they would hit the third jump, then turn back towards each other and head over the roller and crush car set straightaway for the finish.
There were a ton of new comers today so it was exciting to see the new trucks and drivers hit the track. The racing today was incredible to watch and compete in as there was many close races and a few upsets along the way. Setting the tone early was Bernie Whitney driving the brand new Gun Slinger ford. Bernie's Slinger was moving smoothly to the brackets in round 1 to meet Jerry Matoon and Gang Green in the finals. Gun Slinger would grab the first final round of the day and set the tone for the competition. Kyle DeFalco debuted the brand new Summit Bigfoot 18 body on what was the US Afterburner chassis and the truck was still strong as ever. Bigfoot rallied back in Rounds 2 and 3 to take both those final rounds. Abdul Rascoe after a strong day was able to defeat Shock Therapy in the last final round of the day as well. The weekend points were close as it came down to the end but it was Bigfoot grabbing the event win, with Gun Slinger bringing home second place, and a consistent AMSOIL Shock Therapy coming in third. The retro trucks came out during intermission between rounds 2 and 3 and put on an amazing 2 rounds of old school style racing!
It was a great day of racing to kick off our 2012 season, we can't wait to get this year going and are looking forward to making it our best year ever. Be sure to check out some pictures from today's race!
