The 2010 RCMTC-NY racing season was one to remember with great events and awesome competition. The off season has come and gone and now it's time for one of the biggest and baddest RC Monster Truck competitions out there to get the 2011 racing season kicked off! 28 trucks rolled into the RC Madness r/c racing facility to comepete for the non-points series winter wars title. With no points on the line the drivers were ready to put it hang it all out and race for the event win. For the first time ever we have two different monster truck classes for competition. The first class would be the regular pro-mod monster truck class, the second would be the debut of the RCMTC Retro Renegades series. This new Retro Renegades group is a tribute to the old school monster trucks of the 80's and they were alot of fun to see race.
We left off in 2010 with Kyle DeFalco's US Airforce Afterburner monster truck grabbing its third world finals racing title in a row, and the Afterburner showed early signs of being the truck to beat right off the bat. Afterburner made it to the finals in round one against teammate Dan DeFalco in Grave Digger, which was sporting a revamped power plant was back to top form. However, it was Airforce Afterburner grabbing the round one final. In round two, Airforce backed it up by taking the second final round. Round 3 however took a different turn with Kyle dq'ing in the first bracket of the round. Derrick Algieri debuted the brand new GRAVE DIGGER THE LEGEND truck this saturday, and after battling some tough luck in the opening two rounds began to came in to form. Derrick met 2009 champ Dan DeFalco and AMSOIL Shock Therapy in the round 3 final and and the Digger legend truck would grab the win. The fourth and final round saw the same matchup in the finals, with Shock Therapy finishing first but getting called on a DQ for hitting the ramp with two tires on this tricky st. louis style course. The DQ was the only one of the day for AMSOIL Shock Therapy, and after flying under the radar and advancing to two semi final and two final round apperances was able to grab the event win! Afterburner's problems in rounds 3 and 4 and Digger Legend's problems in Rounds 1 and 2 allowed for the consitent Shock Therapy and its CPE terminator chassis to grab the event win.
The RCMTC Retro Renegades ran an old shool style j-hook course, using crush cars with no ramps for obstacles which really let the trucks pop the front ends up and make for some exciting action. Jerry Matoon showed the Conneticut crowd how old school is done in the opening rounds by taking his Jersey Outlaw ford and walking a wheelie across the entire final set of crush cars. Trucks like Grave Digger and Taurus from the DRCR team put on a good show and BIGFOOT was able to finally knock down Abdul Rascoe's fast kyosho usa-1 truck in the 3rd of 3 rounds in the inals and everyone had a blas with the old trucks.
After the racing was completed, Snake Bite, Monster Patrol, Afterburner, Bounty Hunter and Grave Digger closed out the show with individual exhibition freestyle runs. With Grave Digger putting out all stops and putting on a great freestyle to backup last years wheel breaking performance. The first event of the year is officially in the books and this season is looking to be the best one yet. Thanks to everyone who came out, and be sure to check out some pictures from today's event.
