After an awesome first season for the RC Monster Truck Challenge of New York, the time had arrived for very first RCMTC-NY World Finals. The drivers had been looking foward to this event all season, and 19 of the best monster trucks and drivers on the circuit would compete for the world finals racing and freestyle championships. Their battlefield consisted of an awesome las vegas style course, a very fast J-hook racing track, where freestyle was setup with challenging obstacles such as a several big container stacks, a giant tire jump, a mud pool and more!!.
Racing - The event opened up with two rounds of practice so that all drivers would be warmed up to the track, the second round would be a qualifying round that would set the first competition bracket based on the time the truck runs. Brian Wood in Taz made a strong opening statement by setting the fastest time in qualifying and would seed him at the top of the bracket, getting him the bye run for the first round. Trucks like Taz, Airforce Afterburner, Cant Stop Rockin, Bounty Hunter and Big Red all showed to be among the fastest of the field. Greg Noonan debuted a brand new BOUNTY HUNTER this weekend, and made his own strong statement by making it to the round 1 finals. Bounty was one of the fastest trucks in round 1 and met with the Airforce Afterburner in the finals. Kyle DeFalco's Afterburner has won the last two world finals events in a row with the RCMTRA, and showed everyone that he would still be the truck to beat by winning the opening final round. Airforce Afterburner was able to keep the moementum going and was able to win the second round final as well. With 5 total rounds to go the drivers knew they had to step up. After Amsoil Shock Therapy barely edged Afterburner in the early brackets of Round 3, the door was open and up stepped George Fabbiani. George was debuting the brand new ESCALADE monster truck and the truck was on a rail for most of the weekend. George picked the final win for round 3. Racing was close all day through the remaining rounds, and when the dust settled, it was Kyle DeFalco returning to the winner's circle with Airforce Afterburner as well as a second place effort with the CPE Maximum Destruction. George Fabbiani has been steadily improving through each event this year and earns his first podium finish, bringing An Escalade home in third place. It was an incredibally fast and intense racing competition and congratulations goes out to Kyle DeFalco for the racing championship. Check out some pictures from the world finals racing competition.
FREESTYLE- This year's field was the most competitive freestyle lineup of trucks the Barnstormers RC Raceway has ever seen, and it was an awesome night of freestyle. The trucks tore up the freestyle course, grabbing huge air, big wheelies and big crashes. Highlight runs belonged to Revolution, Airforce Afterburner, Maximum Destruction, Big Red and others, but the freestyle night belonged to Greg Noonan. After running into problems with Cant Stop Rockin', Bigfoot and Wolverine, Greg brought out Bounty Hunter and pulled off a wicked freestyle. Greg's run included the move of the night which occured when Greg went to hit the big container stack from the back side. Bounty Hunter pulled a backflip in mid air and landed on all fours on top of the container stack and continued to drive down the stepped side, an incredible move! Greg Noonan and Bounty Hunter was given the highest score and would claim the RC Monster Truck Challenge World Finals freestyle championship!!!! Congrats goes out to our second new champion, here are some pics from the freestyle event.
