September 16th, 2012 - The RC Monster Truck Challenge World Finals returned to the Barnstormers RC Raceway in Chester, NY for another awesome end of the year throwdown. There were 3 championships on the line coming in to the event and the action was intense. Derrick Algieri was atop the Crawford Performance Points Series standings coming in to the event, needing to beat Kyle DeFalco's Bigfoot to secure the season long championship. 14 trucks were on hand to shoot for the individual World Finals racing and freestyle championships.
A brand new track layout was introduced for this year's World Finals, which provided a real challenge for the drivers and produced some really awesome racing. Derrick's Excaliber and Grave Digger the Legend trucks were completely dominant all day. After the first of 6 final round matchups, it was the CPE, AMSOIL Shock Therapy with the lead heading to the last jump, but the back end washed out on the final turn, handing the win to Grave Digger the Legend. Derrick didn't look back from there and went on to win the next four final rounds between Excaliber and the Legend, with Ryan's Ground Pounder putting together some strong passes as well as Peter Spragg with Hot Wheels, Green Goblin and Obsession. Dan DeFalco was able to make a late rally in round 6 with Grave Digger by defeating Maximum Destruction in the finals. Excalber was able to finish off the strong season he's had all year long and grab the World Finals Racing Championship!! This win would also secure the 2012 RC Monster Truck Challenge Crawford Performance Points Series Championship!!! congratulations goes out to Derrick on a job well done. Two championships were now claimed, which left one..freestyle.
The freestyle course this year was the best put together course we've had so far, with big freestyle stacks, crush cars, a big tire jump, two purpose built backflip ramps and more!! Dan DeFalco with American Guardian came out and set the tone with a strong freestyle, a great two wheel save and a perfect backflip to start off the competition. As the freestyle field progressed through, Derrick's Total Chaos modified wheely king emerged as the truck to beat early by putting up a strong score and holding it until the last two trucks. Kyle DeFalco came out with the CPE Maximum Destruction determined to bounce back from a frustrating racing effort. Max-D performed a huge air assault, grabbing some of the biggest air we've seen here at the RCMTC. After nailng a perfect backflip Kyle hit some more big air jumps and then lined up for the container stack and nailed it, sending the truck into a DOUBLE BACKFLIP!!! after driving away from the double backflip the truck hit another jump and broke the right front wheel off. Maximum Destruction socred a perfect 30 and took the lead in freestyle. Dan was up last in Grave Digger and came out wanting to tie Max-D and send it to a tie breaker. Digger started off with huge air off of the tire jump, a gigantic slap wheelie and some great big air and great saves. Digger had 2 backflips in the run, the second broke the right rear tire off on the landing. The only thing hurting Grave Digger's run was he rolled over and had to use a track marshall to flip the truck back over. This is only allowed once during the run and when it happens the truck loses a point from each judge. Digger finished in second place with a score of 28.
